The Haystack History

First, why Haystack in the name?   A brief family history is due here. My life as an eighth generation Boulder County native began in 1884 when my great great grandfather, Alvah M. Dodd, purchased 160 acres west of the newly platted town of Niwot.  This founded what is now our centennial family farm, a historical site known as the Dodd Farm. Fast forward to 1940, the Dodd Brothers further extended their presence in the area by acquiring more land at the foot of Haystack Mountain.  Half a century later, my parents built their home on that land, and Haystack Acres was born!

Haystack Acres?  But this is Haystack Mountain?  Well, continuing on with our family history, my mother established Haystack Acres shortly after building her farm.  After decades of a successful career raising and training horses, she found her love of dogs fit perfectly into their lifestyle and home on the Haystack Acres ranch. Utilizing her professional knowledge, Lynn built one of the top Bernese Mountain Dog breeding programs in the country.

That brings us to Haystack Mountain.  I’ve spent my life learning everything possible about dogs and horses from my mother.  All grown-up and ready to continue the family business, Sam and I have branched off to building our own breeding program, Haystack Mountain Bernedoodles.  We are blessed to have access to the crème of the crop Berners from Haystack Acres, as well as top quality AKC registered Standard Poodles. Even more so, we are thankful that our family history gets to positively add to your family history with happy, healthy, loving Bernedoodles.
